I (Karen McCombie) promise…
…that this is my own personal website, which is here ‘cause it’s fun for me to write and you to read. I’m not going to pass on ANY of your details to anyone, ever.
If you want to sign up for my Newsletter, then that’s organised by my publishers at Scholastic. They are also very nice people, who will not pass on any of your details either, and will only send you stuff to do with my books (for more details, click here).
You (my fantastic readers) promise…
…to be smart and sussed on the net!
About my site: Occasionally, I might mention other websites (fun ones in the Whee!/Blee! section, recommended by me or you guys, plus some useful contacts in the Help! Section [link to Help page]). I’ll always take a peek first and see if these websites are OK, but just remember, some fun-looking sites like you to sign up, and lo and behold, you suddenly get a flurry of silly spam stuff. So read and check carefully!
On a more serious, general note: in the real world, most people are OK, and a very few are nutters. The same goes for the whole of the web out there – and the trouble is, nutters can disguise themselves a lot more easily online! If you’re ever thinking of going on any messageboard or chat-room, make sure they NEVER post people’s whole e-mail addresses. NEVER arrange to meet anyone from the net, in case they’re not who they say they are, however convincing they seem! And ALWAYS get your Mum/Dad/carer to OK things that they need to OK, or that you’re unsure about. (Sorry to sound like a teacher, but that stuff’s important!)
