Booked up!

I'm most honoured - 'An Urgent Message Of Wowness' is one of the 12 books that have been chosen for this year's Booked Up initiative. What's that? Well, it's run by the Booktrust here in the UK, which encourages reading. And Booked Up gives a FREE book to every Year 7 student in England. (How generous!!)
So if you're going to be in Year 7 after the summer holidays, look out for the Booked Up magazine that will be given to you by your school, and choose your free book. Excellent!
Oh, and even if you're NOT going to be in Year 7 next year, or AREN'T in England, you can check out the very cute Booked Up website - www.bookedup.org.uk - for info on all the books and authors on their list.
There's also going to be a short DVD to view on there of all of us authors talking about our books - it'll be posted on the Booked Up website soon. (Haven't seen my wee clip yet - but, ooh, was I nervous filming it! Eeek! Hope it's not too cringey!!)

Busy versus useless

Oooh, it's the summer! (Is that right?!?)

How strange! Don't know what the weather's like where you are, but for the last week here in London it has been positively summer-ish, as if the seasons decided to skip Spring, just to confuse everyone!
Our new cat Dizzy (reminds me – must take a photo of her and post it on the site) is currently lounging on the bench in the garden, flicking her paws at passing flies. She is dippy as a fish – her new hobby is eating wasps. Nooooo! I bumped into the vet today (both of us poring over the Magnum ice-creams in the local corner shop) and when I told him about the wasp thing, he just rolled his eyes and said, "She'll learn!!".
OK, must go. Got to finish some stuff I'm doing on a new book, and then go pick Milly and her chums up and take them to ballet. (Or maybe we'll skip ballet and go and eat Magnums in the park instead...)

PS The latest (and last!) book in the 'Sadie Rocks' series – 'Smile! It's Meant To Be Fun' – should be in your local book shop now! (Or they'll be happy to order it for you toooooo...)

Just call me Dr Doolittle

A week past Friday, me and Milly were bumbling home and found a little lost dog (a Yorkshire Terrier called Tiny). After a brief spell hanging out at our house (frightening poor, elderly Gus cat), we managed to get through to her owner's phone number and reunite her. Hurray!
Skip forward a week to this Friday... a young lost-looking cat followed some friends all the way to school, where I scooped her up. I've checked her for identity chips, put up 'Cat Found' posters, and registered her with Battersea Cat and Dogs' Home. So far, no-one's claimed her and she's snoozling happily on my sofa. (Gus isn't completely convinced that she's OK.)
Then on Saturday, I found a stray frog on the pavement in the next street. (I took it to the wildlife pond in Ally Pally park, as there is no Battersea Frogs Home.)
Just call me Dr Doolittle!

"I'm dreaming of a white... er... January!"

Crikey. Just took down the Christmas decorations yesterday, and woke up to snow this morning. Feel sort of all festive again. Quick!! Get the tree back up! More mince pies, please!!
Or perhaps not, since I ate so many mince pies and crisps (not to mention 'sharing' some the chocolates from Milly's Selection Boxes) that I feel slightly egg-shaped. (Not a good look.)
Anyway, while I'm here, I might as well let you know that 'The Seventeen Secrets of the Karma Club' is being published this month in a smaller size (ie slightly cheaper size, I guess), so if you haven't read it yet and fancy it, now might be a good time to grab a copy. And coming in February is the third book in the 'Sadie Rocks' series – 'It's All Good (In Your Dreams)'
I'm also about to start writing a new novel about... oops, can't tell you about that yet, in case I jinx it! Will witter more about that later.
But first, while the sun is shining on the little bit of snow in our street, I'm off out for a bracing walk (need the exercise – really don't want to turn up to my next book talk and hear people muttering "Wow, I didn't realise she would look so much like an egg...!).
Big lurve,
Karen McCombie :c)
